Stoughton is a working town of nearly 30,000 people where Norfolk County meets the Brockton line — a place defined by the Route 138 commercial strip, the Route 24 interchange that brings IKEA shoppers from across New England, and a commuter base that rides the MBTA’s Providence/Stoughton Line into Boston every morning. Busy roads, big retail, and active workplaces also mean car crashes, customer injuries, and on-the-job accidents. When one of them happens to you, Shea Culgin Law is close by.
Our office sits at 1350 Belmont Street, Suite 109, Brockton, MA 02301 — about 15 minutes from Stoughton Square. Attorneys Robert Shea and Joseph Culgin have represented injured people throughout the Brockton region for more than 20 years, and Stoughton cases are part of our regular caseload.
Stoughton’s Courts
Unlike most towns its size, Stoughton has its own courthouse:
- Stoughton District Court, 1288 Central Street, Stoughton, serves Stoughton along with Avon, Canton, and Sharon. Injury suits seeking modest damages, along with small claims, are heard here — in your own town.
- Norfolk County Superior Court in Dedham handles larger personal injury and wrongful death cases arising in Stoughton.
- Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) — workers’ compensation claims bypass the courts entirely and proceed through the DIA’s administrative process.
Having a district court in town is a genuine convenience for Stoughton clients, and we appear there regularly.

Stoughton FAQ
Will my Stoughton injury case be heard in Stoughton?
Smaller civil cases can be filed at Stoughton District Court on Central Street. Serious injury and wrongful death cases are usually filed in Norfolk County Superior Court in Dedham, where damages are not capped by district court procedural limits. Workers’ comp disputes go to the Department of Industrial Accidents.
Stoughton no longer has a hospital. Where do crash victims get treated?
New England Sinai Hospital on York Street closed in 2024, so most Stoughton emergency patients are taken to Boston Medical Center – South (the former Good Samaritan Medical Center) on North Pearl Street in Brockton or to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. Where you treated has no effect on your legal rights.
How fast can I meet with a lawyer?
Same day in many cases. The consultation is free, by phone or in person, and our Brockton office is a short drive down Route 27 or Pleasant Street from anywhere in Stoughton.
