Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, settled in 1637, and it sits at the Cape’s front door — the Sagamore Bridge funnels nearly all northbound Cape traffic past its borders, Route 6A threads through its historic village, and the Mid-Cape Highway cuts across its middle with three interchanges. A town built around a canal, a scenic highway, and bridge traffic generates car crashes; a town of trades workers, seasonal businesses, a power plant, and a military base generates work injuries. When negligence causes either, Shea Culgin Law represents Sandwich residents.
Robert Shea and Joseph Culgin have spent more than 20 years handling injury and workers’ compensation cases across Massachusetts from their office at 1350 Belmont Street, Suite 109, Brockton, MA 02301. We are not a Cape storefront, and we don’t pretend to be — we are a statewide injury practice that handles every consultation by phone or video at no charge, travels to clients on the Cape when meetings need to happen in person, and appears in the courts and agencies that decide Cape cases.
Where Sandwich Injury Cases Are Decided
Per the Massachusetts court system, the Town of Sandwich is served by Barnstable District Court, which handles smaller civil injury suits. Larger personal injury and wrongful death cases are filed in Barnstable Superior Court, the county’s forum for civil actions over $50,000. Workplace injury claims bypass the courts entirely and proceed through the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents. We handle matters in all three forums.

Questions Sandwich Clients Ask First
Which emergency room handles serious Sandwich injuries?
Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, a designated trauma center, is the Cape’s primary emergency hospital. Residents on the western side of town are also served by Falmouth Hospital’s Yawkey Emergency Center. Either creates the same-day medical record your claim will depend on.
Does it matter that your office is in Brockton, not on the Cape?
Not in any way that affects your case. Massachusetts injury law is statewide, the insurance adjusters are rarely local either, and we handle Cape cases by phone, video, and in-person visits when needed. What matters is who builds the claim, not the ZIP code on the letterhead.
I was hurt by a driver stuck in bridge backup traffic. Is that still an ordinary crash claim?
Yes. Congestion near the Sagamore Bridge explains why rear-end and lane-change collisions happen there; it doesn’t excuse them. The claim proceeds against the negligent driver’s insurer under the same Massachusetts rules as any other crash.
